Reggie (US: ABC; UK: Channel 4)
The American adaptation of "The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin", cancelled (some would say mercifully), after the first series of six episodes were broadcast in 1983. Richard Mulligan, known more to British viewers for his role as Burt Campbell in 'Soap', played Reggie Potter, an employee of the Funtime Ice Cream Company, continually frustrated by his boss C.J. (a younger man than Reggie, and a whizzkid). When at home, he lusts after his son Mark's girlfriend, and fantasises about her, and also his secretary Joan.

The ventures
and misadventures of Jimmy, Reggie Perrin's unlucky brother-in-law, gave
David Nobbs the idea for a sitcom of his own, or at least a character similar
to Jimmy.
Geoffrey Palmer, who played hapless Jimmy in 'The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin' again took the role of the forcibly-retired Major, this time Harry Kitchener Wellington Truscott. Truscott, a former Major in the Queen's Own West Mercian Lowlanders, refuses to put his army days behind him when given the heave-ho, and decides to form a group to fight 'the forces of anarchy when the balloon goes up'. Two series were made, in
1984 and 1986, and broadcast on Channel 4.
